Meet Brian Tighe — Take Flight Aviation’s ✈️BOCES Liaison

🛫 From Combat Aircraft to the Boeing 777
A Lifetime in Aviation

Brian Tighe brings over four decades of aviation experience to Take Flight Aviation. His flying journey began in the U.S. Air Force, where he piloted iconic aircraft such as:

  • B-52 Stratofortress
  • C-5 Galaxy
  • A-37 Dragonfly

After active duty, he continued serving in the Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve while spending 35 years as an airline pilot, ultimately retiring as a Boeing 777 Captain.

💡 A Passion for Teaching the Next Generation

Now retired from the airlines, Brian serves as the BOCES CTECH Liaison for Take Flight Aviation, helping high school students in the BOCES CTECH Aviation Program navigate their introduction to the aviation world.

He bridges the gap between academic learning and real-world flight training—helping students build confidence while learning the discipline required of aviators.

🎓 About the BOCES CTECH Aviation Program

The BOCES Aviation Program offers high school students one of the most unique opportunities in the country:

  • Earn real flight experience
  • Build aviation knowledge in a structured curriculum
  • Work toward earning a Private Pilot Certificate before graduation
  • Train in modern Diamond aircraft with advanced avionics

This program doesn’t just teach aviation — it opens doors to career paths many students may have never imagined.

🧭 Mentorship and Mindset

At Take Flight Aviation, the BOCES CTECH Aviation Program is more than an elective — it’s a launching pad for future aviators.

With instructors like Brian, students learn what it truly means to take command of an airplane. Beyond flight skills, they gain:

  • Discipline
  • Focus
  • Professionalism
  • Real-world decision-making ability

Brian reinforces the mindset that builds pilots — and leaders.

🎯 A Program That Changes Lives

“Flying isn’t about memorizing information — it’s about learning to think under pressure and make decisions when you’re the only one at the controls,” Brian explains.

His teaching philosophy emphasizes:

  • Perseverance
  • Problem-solving
  • Independent thinking

These skills not only create safe, confident pilots but also stay with students throughout their lives — no matter where their careers take them.
